Innovative Contractors began as a ‘community project’. Colin Ekman, Managing Director and initiator of the company first started in the construction industry with his heart to employ people. While undertaking renovation jobs as per his hobby, he began to realise how many young men are in need of employment. Not just any employment, but such that would pay them sufficiently to provide for their families as well as extend their skills and give them real opportunities.
He now employs over 40 workers, has a low turnover of staff and consequently a strong reliable team. Training and furthering the prospects of these men is at the very heart of Colin’s business.
Reaching out
Extending his ideas of community and family upliftment into the local community was easy. With contacts at local schools, churches and creches, Colin was able to provide for needs when they arose.
Salvaging or purchasing existing basins, toilets, kitchen units and other useful unwanted items from homes under renovation has proven a great way to upgrade schools in need.
